An evening benefit in the heart of the wonderful Downtown Saint Paul Arts District meant to introduce The Singers and share delectable desserts and wonderful music-making. Be one of the first to hear The Singers, as they present a thirty-minute sampling of this inaugural season’s musical selections. Saturday, December 11, 2004 - Wayzata Community Church, Wayzata, MN

The Singers' Christmas Concerts will feature Morten Lauridsen's reflective "O Nata Lux," Herbert Howell's miniature masterpiece "A Spotless Rose" and Hugo Distler's inventive "Es Ist Ein Ros' Entsprungen" variations. The Singers will open and close with arrangements of favorite Christmas carols, including carol arrangements by emerging Minnesota composers Abbie Betinis, Drew Collins, Matthew Culloton, Jocelyn Hagen, and Joshua Shank. Other music by favorite local composers Stephen Paulus, Jeffrey Van and Dale Warland will round out this Christmas concert.

This concert of sacred masterworks includes Brahms' stirring motet Warum ist das Licht gegeben and Herbert Howell's poignant Requiem — a tribute to his lost son. Our journey of Lenten music includes Francis Poulenc's dramatic Four Motets for a Time of Penitence. Other works include Tomas Luis de Victoria's O Vos Omnes and English anthems of Orlando Gibbons and Thomas Tallis.

Sun., May 8, 2005, 4:00 p.m. - Trinity Lutheran Church, Stillwater, MN

Poet Michael Dennis Browne joins The Singers in bringing their inaugural season to a close with this celebration of American composers and poets. Classical American composer William Billings utilizes simple harmonies and vivid word-painting while contemporary Minnesota composer René Clausen masterfully wraps sonorous harmonies around the texts of Walt Whitman. The Singers will also present American folk songs, including world premiere arrangements by Drew Collins and Abbie Betinis.
