THE SINGERS ACCESSIBILITY/ADA PLAN: 2025-2026
Goal: To ensure that all community members have physical access and necessary accommodations to participate in, and enjoy, The Singers’ concert programming and educational events and opportunities.
The Choir Manager, Artistic Director, and a selected Board Member (not on the Executive Committee) are tasked as Accessibility Coordinators. They work together to ensure the following:
- Venues used by The Singers provide physical access to the buildings that include ramps, elevators, and wheelchair/walker seating space. Venues also provide accessible vehicle drop-off space, parking, and restroom accommodations with easy access to multiple levels of buildings when necessary.
- Event venues should be large enough to accommodate seating options for those of higher health risks who would like a designated safe space [balcony seating away from general seating, cry rooms, etc.]. The coordinators select the space for these individuals.
- Hiring and collaboration with ASL interpretation providers when included in the season activities, including the marketing of concerts with ASL interpretation to a targeted audience. When possible, venues may assist in providing assistive listening devices.
- Considering venues that provide for safe sensory experiences, especially for families of children with sensory needs.
- Creation of large-print, audio descriptive, and/or Braille concert programs as requested by patrons
- Review ongoing accessibility needs and track success or issues that need improvements.
The Graphic Designer and Board work together to ensure language at The Singers’ website, e-newsletters, and other materials to market these accommodations to the patron community.
Accessibility training opportunities for board, volunteers, and staff are researched by the board, with costs for training provided by the organization. Training will take part during the Annual Meetings or more frequently depending on turnover, or as needed.
