Lauridsen visits The Singers
Morten Lauridsen left sunny southern California in mid-December to return to a cold, snowy Minnesota to attend two of our four What Sweeter Music Christmas concerts and a CD release party for our new and highly anticipated CD– LAURIDSEN: MID-WINTER SONGS. Well it was the weekend of Dec. 10-12 and at 17” the biggest snowfall in MN since 1991. As the day progressed, we reluctantly cancelled first the Saturday CD release party and then the concert that evening at Wayzata Community Church as we watched the Twin Cities come to a standstill. All the while there sat our guest, the famous Morten Lauridsen, holed up in his downtown hotel room riding out the storm like the rest of us! Well, we all dug out the next day and held our scheduled Sunday afternoon concert at Nativity of Our Lord in St. Paul to a most appreciative audience. We adapted a few things and even held a rather impromptu CD release party in the church basement…cooking in the rectory and carting things over to the church! Those who braved the 3’ high snowbanks and unplowed streets were fortunate to attend the party, meet Professor Lauridsen and have him personally sign their CDs!
