THE SINGERS PROUDLY ANNOUNCES 2017-2018 SEASON
MINNEAPOLIS – APRIL 3, 2017 – Led by Artistic Director Matthew Culloton, The Singers’ 14th season includes an array of stunning music by Minnesota greats, emerging talents, and choral icons from around the world. Choral enthusiasts will also be thrilled with the continuation of the Community Sing, marking the fourth such event in as many years.
Hailed as “one of the best choral ensembles in America, if not the entire world,” The Singers recently performed at the National Conference of the American Choral Directors Association. They have appeared four times at the internationally renowned Ravinia Festival in Chicago, most recently performing Rachmaninoff’s Vespers as part of a Robert Shaw tribute program. The ensemble regularly hosts educational and community outreach projects throughout Minnesota, engaging singers and audience members of all ages. The 2017-2018 season will inspire and captivate audiences, speaking to the importance of the choral art in our changing world.

WHAT SWEETER MUSIC – December 2, 3, & 10, 2017: A Twin Cities favorite each December, The Singers’ annual Christmas concerts are a meaningful mix of traditional carols (often in new arrangements), contemplative music of the season, and festive works from the Renaissance to today. This season, the choir presents Eric Whitacre’s Lux Aurumque, Bob Chilcott’s What Sweeter Music, and carols from around the world. 12/2 at 7.30pm at St. Olaf Catholic Church, Minneapolis; 12/3 at 3pm, Wayzata Community Church; 12/10 at 2pm, Nativity of Our Lord, St. Paul
COMMUNITY SING: JOHN RUTTER’S REQUIEM – February 2, 2018: Join The Singers, the House of Hope Motet Choir, organist Aaron David Miller, and a chamber orchestra in a performance of John Rutter’s poignant Requiem, written in memory of the composer’s own father. This is a FREE event, and music scores are provided for the evening (though you can certainly bring your own). Be a part of this fourth Community Sing, and see why participants have called these events “a reminder of the power of music and art when shared with others.”
MY ROMANCE: THE SINGERS’ VALENTINE GALA – February 16, 2018: A new tradition continues! The Singers bring back their Valentines Gala, again held at Oak Ridge Country Club in Hopkins. A dinner, auctions, and karaoke make for a fun-filled party in support of The Singers’ mission and music making. Oak Ridge Country Club, Hopkins MN.

The Singers’ 2012 performance of this work has been one of the most talked-about concerts in the ensemble’s history. Come and be mesmerized by this imaginative and compelling musical achievement, conducted by Assistant Conductor Matthew Olson. 3/24 at 7.30pm, Westwood Lutheran, St. Louis Park; 3/25 at 2pm, Nativity of Our Lord.
