Even Such Is Time: A Pilgrimage Through Life

The Singers open their fourth season with a unique concert that celebrates the stages of life from childhood to love, marriage, faith, and death. John Rutter’s Five Childhood Lyrics open this concert that also includes international love songs from England, France, and Argentina. John Tavener’s Village Wedding recalls the Greek marriage rite, and Herbert Howells’ stunning Requiem, as poignant a setting as any written, brings this moving concert experience to a peaceful conclusion.

The annual celebration of Christmas features favorite carols in new arrangements and beloved works written for the season. The Singers will be joined by flutist Linda Chatterton and harpist Min Kim on music by Benjamin Britten, Stephen Paulus, William Beckstrand, and Dale Warland. A new Gloria by composer-in-residence Jocelyn Hagen will be premiered, and exciting and lovely works by Morten Lauridsen, Healey Willan, Gerald Finzi, and conductor Matt Culloton will be featured. International anthems and carols round out this festive holiday music feast.

Celebrating Minnesota’s rich choral heritage, The Singers will perform works by F. Melius Christiansen, Paul J. Christiansen, Leland Sateren, Dominick Argento, Carol Barnett, Stephen Paulus, Libby Larsen, Rene Clausen, Edie Hill, and others who have contributed to our vast musical landscape. World premiere works by Joshua Shank, Timothy Takach, and Craig Carnahan are also included in the program. Don’t miss one of the first arts tributes of the Minnesota Sesquicentennial Celebration!

My Soul’s Repose: The Singers at the Basilica

The Singers return to the Basilica for their fourth annual presentation of meditative and contemplative choral classics. This concert features award-winning music by composer-in-residence Abbie Betinis, as well as lively Renaissance psalm settings by William Byrd and Orlando Gibbons. Other works by Hugo Distler, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Francis Poulenc and J.S. Bach will add to the sumptuous evening of music-making.
