Artistic Director Matthew Culloton and The Singers are joined by guest conductors René Clausen, conductor of the famed Concordia Choir, and Kathy Romey, leader of the Minnesota Chorale. This Anniversary celebration includes music of Eric Whitacre, Norwegian phenom Ola Gjeilo, Brahms and Clausen. See and hear why The Singers have earned a spot among the finest choirs in the country, and celebrate the beginning of their fifth season!

Mars and Venus: Music for Men’s and Women’s Chorus

Sat., Feb. 7, 2009 – 8:00 p.m. Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, St. Paul, MN

Sun., Feb. 8, 2009 – 4:00 p.m. First Lutheran Church, Columbia Heights, MN

A first for The Singers, the ensemble will be split into two choirs, presenting a concert of Men’s and Women’s Chorus favorites. From the stunning Prayers of St. Francis by Poulenc to the dusty cowboy trails captured by Norman Luboff – the Italian renaissance convents to 20th century icons, this concert presents an exciting look at the eclectic styles and ranges of single-gender repertoire. This concert also features a world premiere by composer-in-residence Joshua Shank.

My Soul’s Repose: The Singers at the Basilica

Sat., March 28, 2009 – 8:00 p.m. Basilica of St. Mary, Minneapolis, MN

Frank Martin’s Mass features French-influenced harmonies and luxuriant choral writing. The presentation of this iconic choral masterpiece in the serene Basilica of St. Mary is simply an opportunity that music enthusiasts can’t miss. Also on the program are early American hymns and spirituals arranged by Alice Parker, Matthew Culloton, and a world premiere by composer-in-residence Jocelyn Hagen.

Choral Horizons: New Music Reading Sessions

Mon., May 11, 2009 – 7:00-10:00 p.m. (reading session)

Tues., May 12, 2009 – 7:00-10:00 p.m. (open rehearsal and recording session)

The Singers welcome three finalist composers Jenni Brandon (CA), Christine Donkin (Ontario), and Justin Merritt (MN) to the Twin Cities. The composers will be part of interactive rehearsals with The Singers, and a rehearsal/recording session open to the public on May 12. The three scores were selected from over 100 submissions, and each shows a creative (yet practical) approach to vocal writing.
