Off the Risers: Life as a Singer 11/1/2014
FLYING HIGH
As our director, Matthew Culloton, informed us after our last concert, “The Sky was Touched!” It certainly feels that way. We’ve been flying high from the moment our season started.
It’s been a bit of a whirlwind. I still can’t believe we were able to pull off so many concerts in so short a time, with so few rehearsals. What a joy to sing in a choir where the singers are not only gifted, but dedicated enough to put in the hours on their own so that we can come to our rehearsal times together and be actually ready to start making the music come to life instead of listening to notes being plunked out on a piano for us.
That level of musicianship is a true gift that we can feel in the room from the first downbeat. As we soon come to a time of giving—giving thanks and giving gifts—I hope that we can all take a moment to think about those things in our life that give us joy, that make our hearts touch the sky. Maybe it’s the ensemble you heard on the radio the other day. Maybe it’s the person sitting next to you. Together, we each can lift the heart to someplace higher.
Wishing you a buoyant heart today,
-Lynette
